Description

Vintage 1960s Bloomingdale Jet Board Surfboard 2SHIPPING For pick up, this item is located in Costa Mesa, California. Two Vintage Bloomingdale Jet Boards. These are extremely rare to find all in one piece. These were built in the 60s and were way ahead of their time. Less than 600 where ever produced. A very large percentage of those are long gone into the land fills. I have 2 of them. One is complete, the other is missing the engine but still has a lot of good parts. I had heard about these things many years ago and just came across a vintage magazine ad for one a few years back. It just got me thinking that that would be a great garage project. Find one of these and strip it down and restore it into working order. I spent years trying to track one of these down. I found the one with no engine first and paid for it with the agreement the owner would keep it for me until I found the parts. Which he did. It took another 2 long years of search and I finally found a complete board in Apache Junction, AZ. The guy that owned it told me it was running when it was put into his shed 30 odd years back. There was a lake nearby and some family members of his had one and brought it up for a holiday weekend. The decided to leave it there because it was huge and hard to travel with. They thought they could use it when they came back to visit. Well, they did not come back for 4 years and when they tried to start it, it would not run well. Carb was all gunked up they have a 2 stroke chain saw motor that requires the gas to be mixed with special oilwhich does not store well. They put it back in the shed and thats were it stayed for 30 years. I was super stoked to find a complete one and bought it right away and paid the guy to bring it to San Diego where we met and I took it home. I also picked up the other one and off I went to my amazing restoration project. Just recently I had a death in the family and I just realized that I just dont have the time for this and I am either going to sell them or store them until I do have the time. So here we are. Two 1960s jet boards just ripe for a restoration. Restored these are selling on Board Hoard and 1st Dibs for around $14,000.00. Even found some that went for more. If you have the time, this would be a really fun project and you could make some good coin. Go online and look for yourself. There have been some fully restored and sold recently. They are not complicated at all. What you need is a complete boardwhich I have. It is only missing the gas cap, which I am told was also a chain saws gas cap, so you should be able to find one. If youre a surfer and or a fix it guy, this would be an amazing project and I which I had the time to do it.Board 1 Complete with exception of gas cap. Was running when parked. Engine and all parts look to be in good condition and I have already soaked everything with penetrating lubricant. Comes with hatch. Board 2 missing the engine and some other internal parts. Does have some good parts that you could swap on the other board. Board 2 s external metal shell is in better condition.. My idea was to take them all the way apart and even separate the upper and lower metal shell and put one together using the best of parts. The metal is aircraft aluminum and would be very simple to pound out all the little dents. There is a ton of information online about these boards. Take some time to read up on them and then come see these. They are in my storage in Costa Mesa. Thanks
