Nonetheless, it does provide an unbroken record of his development of thought is the most complete record of any single person from the 4th 5th centuries. Its a significant theological work, featuring spiritual meditations insights. In the work, Augustine writes about how he regrets having led a sinful immoral life. He discusses his regrets for following the Manichaean religion believing in astrology. He writes about his friend Nebridiuss role in helping to persuade him that astrology was not only incorrect but evil, Saint Ambroses role in his conversion to Christianity. The first nine books are autobiographical the last four are commentary significantly more philosophical. He shows intense sorrow for his sexual sins writes on the importance of sexual morality. The books were written as prayers to God, thus the title, based on the Psalms of David it begins w For Thou hast made us for Thyself our hearts are restless till they rest in Thee.4 The work is thought to be divisible into books which symbolize various aspects of the Trinity trinitarian belief.Heritage Club books were issued w the Sandglass Phlet this is included w the book. Sadly, not all the Heritage editions found on the used book market today still retain their Sandglass inserts - a pity because they provide interesting info about the books, their authors the printing choices involved in their Heritage production. But this book does include it in fair bent condition - it offers small biographies of St. Augustine, Pilkington illustrator, Edy Legrand, as well as gives a fascinating account of how this book was produced.Condition Pre-Owned, Good. This hardcover book was issued to my great-uncle, a member of the Heritage Club in 1963 its in excellent, vintage condition for a book that is more than half a century old you can tell it was valued dearly by him. The pages are clean unmarked, the binding is square tight there are no signs of prior ownership such as an inscription or a bookplate. The slipcase shows little storage color fading thats commonly found with many boxed books caused by its exposure on a bookshelf.
