The Hot Rod 25 uses a pair of 5881 power tubes, rated for 50 watts, but only getting 25 watts. This means that the power tubes last much longer than usual, and theyve got a nice touch of musical compression. The controls on this are like on the classic SLO. Channel 1 is a heavy crunch tone, great for rock rhythm. Channel 2 has an additional gain stage and has tons of sustain for leads. This will do sparkling semi-clean tones, if the guitar volume is turned down some. The effects loop is parallel, not series, and was originally designed for high output rack gear. The loop also works great with pedals, if the volume on the pedal is turned up a little. Ive used it with a Tech 21 reverb pedal and it sounded very good.For those who have looked at the picture and would like to know, yes, the optional slave out modification was done by Soldano. When building the , Mike Soldano called and said there is no other place inside the small lifier chassis to put the mod, and asked if it was okay to put it there. I had to have the slave out. Thats why the jack is installed where it says Rod on the back of the . This mod is for easy send to front of house, and recording direct. Its not speakercab sim voiced. You can use the outboard cab sim sounds the best to you. This is not a load bearing output. A speaker or load box must be connected to the at all times. The Hot Rod 25 is no longer being made.
