I had a boat with round pontoons and many times if people were a little too far to the front of the boat, the front would stuff under the water getting feet wet and everything else in the front wet, also, this would happen much more when I cut the throttle or when the boat encountered a big wave, very dangerous. Thats the reason I bought this Ercoa with HEXAGON pontoons. There are other pontoons that are good including National, Kennedy and others that have a more rectangular type configuration. You ask why most pontoon manufacturers use round pontoons The answer is, I believe, because manufacturing round pontoons is far cheaper and more expedient than rectangular.
